Artworks of the artist
Born 19th August 1959, London, UK
Tyson is known for his bold use of colour not dissimilar to the minimalist technique of colour field painting developed by artists in the 1950’s, accentuating the power of simplistic design in an instantly commanding way. Using Japanese philosophies such as ‘wabi’ (simplicity and transience) and the notion of balance and counterbalance to engage the viewer, Tyson allows for personal interpretation of any underlying message.
With striking vibrancy, like that of an ocean or open space of land, the visual symmetry offers a highly pleasing contemporary composition. Tyson’s intelligent use of complimentary colours is an effective visual of positive and negative space encompassing the entirety of the print.
Tyson’s work is currently hanging in the Tate Britain in London.
