Artworks of the artist
Ghislaine Thomas
Thomas is a french painter, born in 1947 in Oran, Algeria, who lives nowadays near Avignon, when she is in France. Which is quite rare because her passion, as an artist, is travelling, exploring other cultures, meeting people and discover their way of life.
Since her first exhibitions in the 70`s Thomas paints in an non-figurative style, focusing on the materials and composition of the artwork.
She found not only her inspiration in the numerous stays abroad, whether it’s Africa or South America, but also her materials and pigments she is using in her paintings to express herself. The texture of the colors mixed with these elements are only known to her and is a well-kept secret.
The force she founds during her journeys is transmitted in her powerful art, which translates a lot the symbolism of the regions visited.
After some big exhibitions in Europe, mostly UK, Belgium, France and Germany she recently lived and worked in Mexico, where she taught arists how to manipulate tar for using it as a color in paintings.
In 2007 she made a series of aquatints which we propose in our collection.
