Artworks of the artist
“It has been said that figurative painters represent realities, and abstract painters intentions. From this point of view, how might we classify Claude Gaveau? He paints approaches. He cares little for detail, and indeed eludes it, since his perfect economy has already defined his theme. No lines, no limits. Here, colour guides the eye just as melody guides the ear, and the comparison seems to me all the more accurate in that it extends into vibration and triumphs by movement. Claude Gaveau brings to mind one of our finest contemporary poets: Guillevic. Here too is a man who defines less in order to say more.”
